DAILY LIFE
Ancient Egyptians were fascinating people.They worked very hard but they had time to enjoy family, friends, music, parties, swimming, fishing, hunting, sailing, and especially their children, all of which were very important to the ancient Egyptians.
SCHOOL
Some children between the ages of 4 and 14 went to school the learn to read, write, and do arithmetic. When a boy was 14 he started working in his father's profession. The girls stayed at home with their mothers to help them.
CLOTHING
Egypt is a hot country, and in ancient times Egyptians wore simple clothing made of linen to keep cool. Men and women wore white skirts and dresses but rich people decorated the clothes with rings, bracelets, necklaces and other jewels.Egytians wore amulets to protect them from bad spirits and to bring good luck.
They wore sandals made of leather for the richest and made of papyrus plant for the rest.The poorest had no sandals.
Everybody wore make-up too. They put lots of dark paint around their eyes.
Most Egyptians shaved their head to keep cool and adults usually wore wigs.

Who is who?
The ancient Egyptian people lived in social groups as you can see
in this pyramid:
The groups of people nearest the top of society were
the richest and most powerful. The Pharaoh was at the
top and farmers,servants and slaves were at the bottom.
Important jobs in ancient Egypt included soldiers, artists,
craftsmen, and merchants. They formed the middle class.
People usually married within their social group
and continued in the same job as their parents
but there were some exceptions if somebody
had exceptional talent.
FREE TIME
Egyptians loved sports, games, music, dancing and parties. Young children played with wooden and clay toys. They also played

Most families had pets. Cats were their favorite pet because the ancient Egyptians believed that cats had magical powers. They believed cats protected their homes and children from danger.Ancient Egyptians mummified their cats for the after life.
They also had monkeys and birds. Rich people had dogs. They used them for hunting.
HOMES
All Egyptians house were made of mud bricks and painted white. The roof was flat and they liked sitting and talking there, or playing board games. Houses had small, high windows to keep them cool. People cooked food and made bread outside. Most had one or two rooms, but rich people had big houses with gardens and pools. The pool weren't for swimming in. Egyptians used the pools for the fish.
Ancient Egyptians had few furnitures: chairs, beds, chests and baskets. Egyptians slept in wooden beds with wooden headrest instead of pillows!!!
Rich Egyptians often had servants, who worked as maids, cooks and gardeners. They lived in rooms separated from the rich family's rooms.
FOOD
Egyptians ate two large meals each day: one in the morning and another at night. Egyptians went to the market to buy food.They ate lots of cereal, vegetables, and fruits. Some of the most common foods were lentils, cucumbers, beans, onions, figs, dates and grapes. Other fruits included apples, melons, plums and coconut. Beef was the Egyptians' favorite meat, but they also ate lamb, gazelle, wild goat, ox, pork, fish, duck, and goose. They ate fish, too.
Bread, beer made from barley and onions were everyday food of the poor Egyptians and they ate meat and fish on special occasions.
