During the flood season, ancient egyptians helpep build  the pyramids, royal palaces, tombs and temples. These stone monuments were built in the desert to protect the tombs from the Nile flood.

PYRAMIDS:HOUSES OF ETERNITY
The ancient Egyptians built pyramids as tombs for the pharaohs and their queens.There are about eighty pyramids from ancient Egypt. The three biggest of these are at Giza and the 'Great Pyramid' is the most famous.
The Egyptians built big statues to guard the pyramids tombs called sphinx.A Sphinx is a mythological creature with the body of a lion and the head of a person.The most famous sphinx is the Great Sphinx of Giza. It is one of the largest and oldest statues in the world.It is 73 m long and 20 m high. It had a long beard and a nose. It also was painted in bright colors. Archeologists think that the face and body were painted red, the beard was blue, and  the headdress was yellow.

Ancient Egyptians used more than two million of blocks of stone to built the Great Pyramid.

Pharaohs were buried in a chamber inside the pyramid.

The walls and ceilings of the tombs were decorated with paintings and writing. These paintings tell us about life in ancient Egypt: farming, clothes, animals, gods,...

THE VALLEY OF THE KINGS

 

After many years, Egyptians stopped building pyramids and looked for a best place for their new tombs: the Valley of Kings. There are 60 underground tombs in the Valley of Kings.

The most famous tomb in the Valley of the Kings is that of the Pharaoh Tutankhamun. He became king of Egypt when he was 9 but he died very young.Its tomb was discovered in 1922 by Howard Carter. Inside was a fantastic treasure!
